Cooking at home is fun

Chef Jer

My wife calls me Chef Jer because my middle name is Jerry and she shorten it because she has known about my love for cooking for more than 50 years. Today neither one of us are strangers in the kitchen. We both enjoy trying different recipes which we generally tweak them to make our own version of the recipes we have tried and come to love over the years.

We want to share some of our recipes with the members of our website and we hope that our members will share some of their favorite recipes that we would like to feature for other members to try.

My Love for Cooking

My love for cooking started at an early age and the inspiration came from both my father and mother. My mother’s homemade biscuits, pies and cakes were always a treat. My mother was a great cook and she provided many of the recipes that I still used, and I that I have tweaked over time.

My dad loved getting up early and cooking breakfast for us most mornings before school. However, it was always a treat whenever he made pancakes for us on Saturday morning. He always called them flap jacks and it was so much fun watching him flipping flap jack on a Saturday morning. We knew dad was cooking what we would call a big breakfast today……. pancakes (i.e. Flap jacks), grits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, syrup, and a glass of orange juice.

My father was no stranger in the kitchen, and he had no problem cooking for his family. He shared with me a valuable lesson he learned from his mother. She told him that a man should know how to cook, wash, iron, and sew. He said that my grandmother told him that you never know when your wife may become ill, and it will be your responsibility to make sure these family basic needs are still being met. This lesson inspired my joy for cooking.

As a former Barbeque Restaurant owner, several of our menu items were based on recipes that I got from my mother. Today, I love watching cooking shows for tips, tools, and techniques to use in our own kitchen.

On this page of our website, we want to feature some of the favorite recipes prepared by men who enjoy cooking in a section called “Men in the Kitchen”.
